Finding a contractor you can trust with your home is like striking gold. When you’re in the midst of a crisis, the last thing you want to do is sit on hold for an hour, so prompt customer service is a must. And of course, a combination of expertise and experience is what makes a great electrician, painter, or handyman.
As a realtor here in Columbus, my standard for contractors is pretty high. Not only do I call them for help with my house, but I also recommend them to my clients. That means their quality of work must be top-notch every time.
I’m often asked for my master list of trusted contractors, which makes sense. When you’re on the struggle bus, you call your friends, and I love building relationships with my clients. They rely on me to help them prepare their homes for the market, and that often means updating roofing, plumbing, or fixtures. Like a friend, I want to help however I can—and that’s why I’m going to share the master list with you.
These are the guys I call whether I need an update or a full system reset:
James Garrett, (614) 659-1761
The Jimbo team is in the business of turning houses into homes. They handle construction and installation, repair and remodeling, maintenance, and more. Their prices are fair, they always clean up after themselves, and they even offer free estimates. When I don’t even know where to begin, I call James.
Jesse Whitt, (614) 824-0849
Radon mitigation is no joke. In fact, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. That’s why I appreciate A&J’s dedication to home safety. They’re a family-owned company with over seven years of experience, offering competitive rates and, most importantly, peace of mind.
Brian Moore, (614) 974-9724
With Right Way, I know my clients are getting the best service, for the best price, on the best timeline. Brian’s team is always friendly and doesn’t use high-pressure sales tactics. Rather, they clearly explain the details of the job and do what they can to save you money on high-quality products.
West Jefferson Plumbing & Heating
(614) 879-9091
West Jefferson does it all: faucet repair, water heater replacement, gas line installation, water softeners, garbage disposals, and AC services. They’ve been around since 1976 and have a long history of reliability and trustworthiness. When things go splash, I don’t hesitate to call them.
Rich Clingman, (614) 282-5421
Rich has been working with HVAC units since he was just 14 years old. He didn’t set out to start his own business, but as his friends and family members (and their friends and family members) kept calling, he realized his skills were in demand. I’m eternally grateful for his expertise and assistance.
(614) 535-6397
Dan Hampton comes highly recommended by many, many people in our community. He’s always on time, overprepared, and happy to explain his process. Dan handles breaker boxes, light fixtures, ceiling fans, and much more.
Ryan Edmond, (419) 208-4165
I’m convinced that Ryan can paint anything. With 15 years of experience in this business, he’s worked on tiny restrooms, multi-million-dollar mansions, and over a thousand homes in between. His expertise is in residential properties, including walls, ceilings, trim and doors, cabinetry, and more. Plus, he offers free estimates so you can feel confident moving forward with your project.
Rares Stelea, (614) 924-0003
The Clean Air Pros team was unsatisfied with the air duct cleaning services in Columbus, but rather than complaining about it, they started their own company. They specialize in dryer vent cleaning, air duct cleaning, and whole-home sanitization. I love their passion for removing air pollutants and improving your family’s overall health.
(614) 772-4626
There are few things more horrifying than discovering that your basement has flooded. That’s why I always recommend C&J for waterproofing, foundation repair, and crawl space encapsulation. Your body may be 60% water, but your home definitely shouldn’t be.
Fineline Systems Environmental, LLC
Paul Lail, (614) 743-6647
Speaking of waterproofing, an unfortunate hazard of a damp environment is mold, the cost of which is much too high to live with for long. I don’t mess around with my family’s health or that of my clients, so I count on Fineline to inspect and treat our homes when things start growing.
Mike Welch, (937) 963-6165
For the rest of your home inspection needs, Mike is your guy. He also handles pest control, which anyone who’s ever had ants, roaches, or spiders knows is a lifesaver.
Crises always look a little smaller in hindsight, but these companies understand the present-moment stress of a roof leak, malfunctioning HVAC, or mold problem. My suggestion is to bookmark this page for easy access if you need it (or in case you decide to take on a fun remodeling project!).
And if you’re happy with any of the services above, be sure to recommend them to your friends. A good word keeps the Columbus community thriving.
