Splat! There’s an unmistakable sound when you drop an ice cream cone onto the floor. It’s a bit of a tragedy, really. Like most people, I usually abide by the 5 second rule if I drop food on the ground.
Ice cream is different.
I don’t want to literally lick something that’s been on the ground. Gross.
So, several years ago when my young daughter Jane (who’s now a teenager) dropped her ice cream cone, my first instinct as a mother (after cleaning it up) was to pull out my credit card. I needed to buy her another cone! But the folks at Johnson’s Real Ice Cream wouldn’t let me. We were at the old Dublin location near Bridge Park. They saw it all happen, and they insisted on making us a brand new cone, for free. That moment made me a loyal customer for life. It’s only a couple bucks, but it was the principle. It’s the little things in life!
If you live here in the Buckeye capital then I’m sure you know Jeni’s, Graeter’s, and probably Handel’s ice cream. Folks all across the country seem to know about Jeni’s now, because they have distribution in many premium grocery stores. And, don’t get me wrong, Jeni’s ice cream is absolutely amazing. Some of their creative flavors are genius. Jeni’s brambleberry crisp ice cream is where it’s at.
All that being said…
Johnson’s Real Ice Cream has been serving up delicious frozen treats for over 70 years. It’s family owned. Yes, their commitment to quality is amazing, but their belief in being incredible business owners is even more amazing. That’s why I usually list Johnson’s as my favorite local ice cream, even if it may be a contrarian opinion!
Another thing that sets Johnson’s apart is their commitment to using only the freshest ingredients in their ice cream. They source their milk and cream from local Ohio Proud dairy farms. This means that every scoop of ice cream is bursting with flavor AND 100% of their ice cream is made here in Columbus!
I personally love the Irish Sundae at the Dublin location: Mighty Mint and Chip Ice Cream topped with Hot Fudge and crushed Oreos. My daughter loves their frozen yogurt and my husband loves the Lemon Cha Cha flavor…on a chocolate dipped waffle cone of course!
BTW I’m not a paid spokesperson for Johnsons, I’m just a Realtor here who is passionate about supporting the community. But if anyone from Johnson’s is reading this, I’d be happy to trade marketing for ice cream. Have your people call my people.
